TFCD - Time For CD of pictures

So what is TFCD?
Basically, the photographer and model trade services. The photographer doesn´t charge for his/her services, and the model doesn´t charge for his/her services.

What does the model get out of this?
For the model...

  • The model receives a CD containing proofs of the images taken at the photo shoot.
  • These proof images may be used by the model on the model's on-line portfolio on the model's web site.
  • The proof images are low-to-medium resolution image files suitable for web publication similar to the individual images found on my portfolio pages.
  • In addition, the model may select up to five (5) images from the shoot which will be provided in high resolution form. The photographer reserves the right to crop, retouch, or otherwise alter the images prior to inclusion on the CD.

What does the photographer get out of this?
For the photographer...

  • The photographer gains the opportunity to experiment with new styles, techniques, lighting, equipment, etc.
  • He/she also gains the opportunity to experiment with and refine his/her posing instructions.
  • The photographer gains images which the photographer can add to their print and online (web site) portfolios.

Can the photographer or model sell the pictures?
No. Neither the photographer nor the model have the right to sell photos from the shoot without signing an additional release or agreement.

In Summary...
TFCD is a cooperative agreement which allows the model to gain experience and receive a set of images the model can post on his/her web portfolio, and the photographer gets to experiment with new models, styles, techniques, lighting, equipment, etc., and have a set of images the photographer can post on his/her web portfolio and use in his/her print portfolio. Neither the model nor the photographer can profit from the pictures without signing an additional release or agreement.

The TFCD Process.
Generally, the process for a TFCD photo shoot will be similar to the process listed below. "You" refers to the model, "I" refers to the photographer, and "we" refers to both the model and photographer.

  • By email, telephone, instant message, or in person, we will plan the photo shoot. Some of the things we will discuss are the date, time, location, theme (or themes), wardrobe, hair and makeup, wardrobe changes, and who you will bring as your chaperone. The photo shoot often involves one or more of the following styles: casual, editorial, portrait, head shoot, fitness/sport, swimsuit, or limited (no nudity) glamour.
  • In the week prior to the photo shoot you will receive a copy of the model release you will be signing at the conclusion of the photo shoot.
  • The day of the photo shoot:
    • You will bring a photo-ID (Drivers License if 18 or older) for age verification (necessary to prove you have the legal standing and capacity to sign a model release on your own).
    • You will provide your own transportation to and from the photo shoot.
    • You arrive at the specified location WITH A CHAPERONE. This is non-negotiable. You MUST bring a chaperone, no matter what your age. If you are under 18, you must bring a parent or legal guardian with the legal capacity to sign a model release. If you are 18 or older, your chaperone will be another adult (if you are female, a female, if you are male, a male).
    • You provide the wardrobe for the photo shoot.
    • You arrive with your hair and makeup styled.
    • You arrive on time, preferably early, and ready to begin photography at the photo shoot´s scheduled start time.
    • Your chaperone will find a convenient, nearby location which will not interfere with the photo shoot and will wait at that location while the photo shoot takes place. Your chaperone will probably want to bring a book to read. Photo shoots can be very boring for those who are not direct participants in the photo shoot.
    • If wardrobe changes are necessary during the photo shoot, you will make every reasonable effort to quickly complete the wardrobe changes and make any needed hair or makeup changes.
    • At the photo shoot, I, the photographer, will take pictures of you, the model. I will direct you through a number of poses and perhaps wardrobe changes.
    • At the conclusion of the photo shoot, you (or if you are under 18, you and a parent or legal guardian) will sign a model release. Basically, the model release stipulates:
      • You grant me the rights to non-commercial use of the photos from the photo shoot.
      • You grant me the rights to use the photos from the photo shoot in my print and web portfolios.
      • I grant you the right to use the photos from the photo shoot in your print and web portfolios.
  • Within two weeks following the date of the photo shoot, a CD containing proof images (low-resolution copies of the photos) from the photo shoot will be mailed to you. I reserve the right to crop, retouch, or otherwise alter the images prior to their inclusion on the CD, including branding the images with my watermark and copyright notice.
  • Upon receipt of the CD of proof images, you will select up to five (5) images and will email me the image numbers of the images you have selected. You have two weeks in which to provide the image numbers of the images you have selected.
  • Within two weeks of receipt of the list of image numbers you have selected, I will produce and mail to you a CD containing high resolution versions of the selected images (up to five). I reserve the right to crop, retouch, or otherwise alter the images prior to their inclusion on the CD.

At present I´m trying to expand the breadth of my portfolio. If you would like to work with me on a TFCD or TFP basis, please send me an email with your interests at:
